IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE!

I did not make any resolutions this year.  I decided it’s just not worth it since I never keep them anyway.  Instead, I am trying to push myself for small but meaningful changes.

Colorado dumped plastic bags last year, which forced the people of the state to purchase alternatives.  I chose to create alternatives.  I went about it all wrong.  I made hundreds of my H.A.S.B. bags (Handle And Strap Bags), but only actually charged for a few of them – IDIOT!  It costs materials and tons of my time to create them, and I figured out prices for the different types and sizes; yet I gave too many away.

In the early days of the “no plastic bags” era, I would be standing in a checkout line and notice an elderly person with their arms full of items.  Yes, the stores eventually offered bags for sale, but elderly people usually have very fixed incomes.  Needless to say, I would give that person a bag to help them out – no cost.

I did make a fantastic trade with a gal at one of the stores.  She requested 6 purple bags in trade for yarn that she had and was not using.  I agreed and think I made out better than her.  The bag of yarn she gave me was the size of a small car – WOW!!

My bags have handles for easy carry, a strap that stretches across the body (nice for heavy loads or Flea Markets), they are all handmade, easy to wash and dry, reusable, and recyclable – nothing left to harm the planet.  I am very proud of them.

Now I have found patterns for a Llama Dusting Mitt, and a Swiffer mop cover (again, washable and recyclable).  I thought about bookmarks and found some very pretty patterns, but they do not work well with smaller books because they are too bulky.  So I will keep looking for handy things to help humans and be good to the earth.  That, I guess, is my wish for this year.
